Pattern | Kiniki Knits | Jacks Point Sweater

I'm super happy to offer patterns from a talented local Queenstown knitwear designer, Kiniki Knits. 

This is a physical printed pattern. Kiniki Knits patterns will also be stocked at the Arrowtown Post Shop. 

Jacks Point is a wide sweater made with a compact DK (8 ply) yarn, held together with a mohair lace yarn, to create a soft, luxurious fabric with lots of drape. Alternatively, it can be worked in a worsted weight yarn.

It is worked from the bottom up and seamed only at the shoulders. Stiches are picked up to form the band of the neck. The sleeves are worked top-down by picking up stiches and using short rows to avoid seaming. If you’ve never tried short rows before, this is a great introduction, with links provided for those new to the technique.  

The hem has side-splits and is lower at the back. The sleeves are bracelet length, but are easily adjustable in length. A slip stich ribbing is used for the bands.  

The pattern is named “Jacks Point” after the settlement underneath the Remarkables mountain range, New Zealand.

SIZING:

Size 1 [71-76cm or 28-30 inches/ 100cm or 39.5 inches/ 60cm or 23½ inches]  

Size 2 [82-87cm or 32-34 inches/ 109cm or 43 inches/ 61cm or 24 inches] 

Size 3 [92-97cm or 36-38 inches/ 119cm or 47 inches/ 63cm or 25 inches] 

Size 4 [102-107cm or 40-42 inches/ 128cm or 50.5 inches/ 65cm or 26 inches] 

Size 5 [112-117cm or 44-46 inches/ 138cm or 54.5 inches/ 66cm or 26 inches]

YARN 

Use a dk (8 ply) yarn held with a lace-weight mohair yarn. For the dk (8 ply), choose a light, compact yarn. Suggestions: 

• Rowan felted tweed, 50% Wool, 25% Viscose, 25% Alpaca, 175m (191 yards) per 50 grams. 
• CaMaRose Økologisk Hverdagsuld, 100% organic wool, 150m per 50 grams;  

Suggestions for the mohair yarn: 

• Rowan Kidsilk Haze, 70% Mohair, 30% Silk, 210m (229 yards) per 25 grams. 
• Isager Silk Mohair, 75% Super Kid Mohair, 25% Silk, 212m per 25 grams.  

Alternatively, a lofty worsted yarn can be used, such as Outlaw Yarn’s Rebel Worsted, 80% Merino, 20% NZ Halfbreed Wool, 250 m per 100 grams.

APPROXIMATE YARDAGE (EACH YEARN):

Size 1: 660m or 720 yards 

Size 2: 710m or 780 yards 

Size 3: 760m or 830 yards 

Size 4: 830m or 910 yards 

Size 5: 890m or 970 yards

Size 6: 950m or 1040 yards

NEEDLES:

5.5mm (US9) circular needles for torso, neck band, sleeves 

Optional 5.5mm (US9) straight needles for flat sections 

GAUGE 

17 stitches and 25-26 rows to 10cm (4 inches) in stockinette.
